Performance Program: Grade 1-8
Choose the class that works for you…
Tuesday 5:30-8pm in West Markham at the Gibson Centre, 105 Gibson Dr.
Thursday 5:30-8pm in Scarborough at the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto
Find out why both parents and kids RAVE about this unique, specialized program! For anyone who begins Grade 1-8 in September, no previous experience necessary! Students learn & rehearse a musical, and perform a fully staged show at the end of each session. Costumes, sets, lights, microphones, and a 626 seat audience at our beautiful venue… it’s a true theatre experience! Each student receives individual coaching and direction, as well as scripts, written activities, tracks, video tutorials, and everything they need in order to put in additional time rehearsing at home. The learning continues outside of class!
We’re known for meeting each individual where they are, and helping them to feel comfortable stepping outside of their comfort zone. We coach students to embrace new challenges, which not only amounts to personal growth, but quickly builds community across the group. Each 2.5 hour weekly class is jam-packed with fun and learning. But more importantly, the values and soft skills acquired with each new session are immeasurable.
Students in grade 8 can choose which program they prefer; this 3 session Performance Program, or the September-May Teen Program. Get in touch for details.
Click here for all class, rehearsal and show dates for the year.
Please note that there is one Saturday date for each session where a mandatory rehearsal takes place.
For the final two classes of each session, class days will vary for the final dress rehearsal and show.
These two final rehearsals, and the show, will be at the Chinese Cultural Centre for ALL students.
For the June show, Tuesday students will need to miss an afternoon of school for stage rehearsal on Monday June 9th 2025.
Three Unique Show Experiences!
Disney’s Beauty And The Beast JR.
Fall Session 2024- Performance Tuesday December 10th 2024
(The TU and TH groups come together for this performance)
-
This script is going into the “vault” and will no longer be available for licensing, this is the last chance to perform it for the foreseeable future!
Based on the original Broadway production that ran for over thirteen years and was nominated for nine Tony Awards, and the Academy Award-winning motion picture, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast JR. is a fantastic adaptation of the story of transformation and tolerance. Disney’s Beauty and the Beast JR. features some of the most popular songs ever written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, along with new songs by Mr. Menken and Tim Rice.
The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed to his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.
Disney’s Beauty and the Beast JR. is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). www.MTIShows.com
Winter Gala- Theme TBD
Winter Session 2025- Performance Tuesday March 4th 2025
(The TU and TH groups come together for this performance)
-
In order to provide the most well-rounded experience for our students across the school year, our Winter Session is focused on building theatre and performance skills, and includes a workshop with a special guest artist! Students will get to explore music from shows that we wouldn’t normally touch on when we’re busy learning a full musical. They’ll build their knowledge and repertoire exploring various scenes, monologues, music, and choreography! The final performance is a showcase of all that they have learned, with an entertaining theme and music that will have the audience singing along from their seats!
This year in “Home Is Where Your Playbills Are” students will be exploring material from a variety of musicals that are gracing Ontario stages in 2025!
The GRUNCH
Spring Session 2025- Performances Tuesday June 10th and Wednesday June 11th 2025
(The TU and TH groups each do their own show)
-
Inspired by “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas”, The Grunch tells the story of Rudy Grunch, a grumpy 6th grader who always feels like an outsider. When the entire school gets excited about the annual school musical, he comes up with a perfect plan to ruin it for everyone; he’ll steal the sets, costumes and lights the night before it opens. But will the spirit of theatre prevail?
We did this show in 2019 and are so excited to revisit it- now on our larger stage! It’s truly a love letter to Musical Theatre and is packed with fun, catchy music and humour. It’s the perfect way to wrap up our school year!
Presented through special arrangement with Beat by Beat Press (www.bbbpress.com)

Performance Program: Teens
Wednesdays 5:30-8pm at the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto
After a successful first year and run of Into The Woods Jr, we’re excited to continue this offering... a natural progression for our Performance Program. This is a more advanced experience just for students grade 8+! Not only will these Teens be learning technique and many skills as they build a licensed musical production, but there will be a variety of specialized theatre workshops throughout the year, including some amazing guest artists! As with all of our programs, no previous experience is necessary; all we ask for is commitment, effort, and a willingness to try new things and PLAY!
We offer a “triple threat” combination of building musical theatre skills, gaining performance experience, and a leadership-in-training initiative. Participants are given opportunities to explore their teaching skills, learn about backstage management, and more!
Teens will spend the first few weeks in the Fall exploring various musicals, and will ultimately get a say in which show we do! Where our younger shows are multi-cast, this will be more typical casting to give older students the advanced experience of doing a full show in a role.
Students in grade 8 can choose which program they prefer; the 3 session Performance Program, or this September-May model. Get in touch for details.
Click here for all class, rehearsal and show dates for the year.
Classes run on Wednesdays 5:30-8pm from September through the end of May (NOT our traditional 3 session model).
Please note that Monday May 19th (Victoria Day) will be a MANDATORY full day stage rehearsal.
Students will need to miss some school on show days between May 20th-22nd (exact timing TBC).
There will be additional learning opportunities outside of class time- like set painting and helping back stage. These are optional and will be coordinated throughout the year (volunteer hours can be given).
Meet some of our fabulous guest teachers!
Gina Patricio
-
For almost 30 years, Gina has been the owner of a film/television, commercial and theatrical talent agency in the GTA. With a strong background in communications in provincial politics and love for the theatre, her foray and transition into the world of entertainment was almost inevitable and came as no surprise to those who know her well. With a game plan that emphasized diversity as a strongpoint, MGA Talent was born.
Her clients have performed in major musicals on stages across Canada and around the world... including Broadway and London’s West End. Some of the many shows include Les Miserables, Miss Saigon, Phantom of the Opera, the King and I, Evita, Lion King and Come From Away.
Not to be overlooked are the numerous projects that she has spearheaded and organized .... karaoke contests, fundraising events and community productions.
Also a performer, Gina has won several singing competitions. Some of the roles she has played on stage are Bloody Mary in South Pacific, Mamma Morton in Chicago., Carmen Bernstein in Curtains and Sally Slaton in Parade. This November, catch her as the bossy, belting but endearing Martha Watson in Wavestage Theatre Company's presentation of White Christmas at the New Roads Performing Arts Centre in Newmarket. wavestagetheatre.com
